Dear colleagues and friends,
I'd like to take the opportunity to share the articles in a special series on digital archives at the Visualities forum at Modernism/modernity Print Plus. Four of the five articles in this series are online now, and they offer a fascinating insight into several major digital resources, as well as theoretical reflections on their stakes and uses. Each article is focused around specific visual artifacts, so they also give a window onto modernism's visual cultures.
The articles published so far are:
1. Brandon Truett on Repensar Guernica and ways of seeing art in a pandemic
2. Kate Saccone on the ongoing detective work of the Women Film Pioneers Project
3. The creators of Mina Loy: Navigating the Avant-Garde on creative theory-making
4. Modernist Archives Publishing Project collaborators on the archival gaze
These pieces are available here: https://modernismmodernity.org/tags/visualities-special-series-digital-archives. And do look out for the final installment, in which the art historian Grace Brockington discusses her work to restage the little theater of Vernon Lee online.
I hope the series will be of use to MSA members, especially but not only during this period of remote working.
All the best,
Alix Beeston, Cardiff University
