Announcing the Shakespeare and Company Project
Based on records from Sylvia Beach's bookshop and lending library in interwar Paris, the Shakespeare and Company Project is a new resource for studying modernism and cultural history.
Discover what Shakespeare and Company members read and where they lived. Track the circulation of books and magazines. Rediscover lost novels. Analyze member demographics and borrowing habits. Explore how expatriate life changed in Paris between the world wars.
The Project is currently planning collaborations with Modernism/modernity and the Journal of Cultural Analytics. CFPs will appear this fall. In 2022, the Project plans to host a conference at Princeton University. For updates, follow the Project on Twitter at twitter.com/shakescoproject.
We hope that the Project proves to be a useful archive at a time when so many archives are inaccessible.
