Dear Colleagues,

Please join the Modernism Seminar of the Mahindra Humanities Center at
Harvard next Tuesday, February 13, at 6:00 p.m. to hear Eve Sorum
(University of Massachusetts, Boston) speak on:

*"Modernist Empathy: Melting, Transcendence, and T. S. Eliot’s Points of
View"*

The presentation will take place in the Mahindra Humanities
Center, Barker 133.

*Eve Sorum* is an Associate Professor of English at University of
Massachusetts Boston, where she teaches courses on transatlantic modernism,
modernism and visual culture, World War I literature, and Virginia Woolf.
She has published essays on writers including Thomas Hardy, Virginia Woolf,
Ford Madox Ford, T. S. Eliot, and W. H. Auden in journals that include
*Modernism/modernity*, *Studies in the Novel*, and *The Journal of Modern
Literature*, and in collections including *Modernism and Mourning *and *The
Cambridge Companion to The Waste Land*. Her talk is drawn from a recently
finished book manuscript titled *Modernist Empathy*.

There is free parking near the HHC at the Broadway Garage, on Felton
between Broadway and Cambridge Street. Just tell the attendant that you're
participating in an event at the HHC. Normally the attendant is welcoming,
as long as it's after 5:00 p.m., even if we are erroneously not on the good
list.

We hope you'll be able to attend the session, which, as always, includes
discussion after the presentation.

Details about the Center, including a calendar of events, are available at:
