Dear Colleagues,

Please join the Modernism Seminar of the Mahindra Humanities Center at
Harvard on Thursday, September 25, at 6:00 p.m. to hear Michaela Bronstein
speak on the topic:

*“Mirrors Can Only Lie:* *James, Baldwin, and the Afterlives of Character"*

The presentation will take place in Room 133 of the Barker Center.

*Michaela Bronstein*, currently a Junior Fellow at the Harvard Society of
Fellows, received her PhD from Yale in 2012. Her work has appeared in *MLQ,
Essays in Criticism, The Conradian*, and elsewhere. She is currently
completing a book manuscript entitled *Out of Context: The Uses of
Modernist Fiction*, which examines the political uses of modernist
novelists’ aspirations to produce lasting works of art.

There is free parking near the HHC at the Broadway Garage, on Felton
between Broadway and Cambridge Street. Just tell the attendant that you're
participating in an event at the HHC. Normally the attendant is welcoming,
as long as it's after 5:00 p.m., even if we are erroneously not on the good

We hope you'll be able to attend the session, which, as always, includes
discussion after the presentation.

Fall 2014 Speakers:

Samuel Alexander (Endicott College) on *Middletown, U.S.A*.: Social Science
and Modernist Form in Dos Passos's Trilogy" on Tuesday, October 21, 2014,
at 6 pm in Room 133, Barker Center.

Benjamin Kahan (LSU), title TBA, on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at 6 pm
in Room 133, Barker Center.

Details about the Center, including a calendar of events, are available at:
