Dear Colleagues,

The Modernism Seminar of the Mahindra Humanities Center at Harvard is
pleased to announce that on Monday, September 30, at 6:00 p.m. Susan Cannon
Harris will speak on:

"The Sunflower and the Soviets: Re-Reading Sean O'Casey's Red Period,

The presentation will take place in Room 133 of the Barker Center.

Susan Cannon Harris is an Associate Professor of English and Irish Studies
at the University of Notre Dame. Her book *Gender and Modern Irish
Drama*(Indiana University Press, 2002) was awarded
both the Donald Murphy Prize for a Distinguished First Book in Irish
Studies and the Robert Rhodes Prize for Books on Literature by the American
Conference for Irish Studies in 2003.  She has published widely on gender,
culture, and Irish theater in the eighteenth and twentieth centuries,
including most recently "Mobilizing Maurya: J.M. Synge, Bertolt Brecht, and
the Revolutionary Mother" in *Modern Drama* (2013).  She is currently
working on a book about modern Irish playwrights and the political and
cultural left.

There is free parking near the HHC at the Broadway Garage, on Felton
between Broadway and Cambridge Street. Just tell the attendant that you're
participating in an event at the HHC. Normally the attendant is welcoming,
as long as it's after 5:00 p.m., even if we are erroneously not on the good

We hope you'll be able to attend the session, which, as always, includes
discussion after the presentation.
