Lecturers in English Literature

University of Exeter - College of Humanities

(Ref. R11138)

£31,948 to £35,938 per annum

The University seeks to appoint five permanent full-time Lecturers in English Literature.

In RAE 2008, English at Exeter was rated 1st nationally for 'world-leading research'. We seek to build on that achievement by appointing new Lecturers capable of developing an international profile and generating significant grant income. The successful applicants will be enthusiastic and committed individuals who, with appropriate training and mentoring, will contribute fully to the Department's programme of activities, including the delivery of seminars and lectures, personal tutoring, and assessment. These posts offer the opportunity to participate in the life of a vibrant and innovative English Department, contributing fully to postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and pastoral support and to the research environment of the Department.

The successful applicants will already hold a PhD in English Literature, and will have started to develop their work in a field of research related or complementary to existing Exeter strengths. They will be able to demonstrate the following qualities and characteristics: an outstanding research profile; a strong record in attracting research funding, or demonstrable potential to attract such funding; team skills to work in collaboration with existing group members; an active and supportive approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research that will help to foster interactions and links both within the University and externally; the attitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development; the aptitude to develop a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning; an enthusiasm for delivering undergraduate programmes.

Applications from all candidates are welcomed regardless of research specialism. It may be an advantage to have expertise in one or more of the following areas: Romantic Literature; Philosophies of Literature; Global Literatures; Literature 1900-1945.

Appointments will be made within the Education and Research job family, salary range £31,948 to £35,938 per annum, Grade F depending on qualifications and experience.
