Dear Colleagues,

The second fall session at the Modernism Seminar of the Harvard =

Humanities Center is coming up next week. Please join us if you are =

in the area to hear Nico Israel on:

  				=

Thursday, October 22, 7:00 pm, 133 Barker Center, Harvard Humanities =

Center.

Please note the slightly later than usual start time.

There is free parking near the HHC at the Broadway Garage, on Felton =

between Broadway and Cambridge Street. Just tell the attendant that =

you're participating in an event at the HHC, and pray that he is =

friendly.

Nico Israel, Associate Professor of English at Hunter College (CUNY), =

has published widely on twentieth-century literature, critical theory, =

art history, and visual culture. His writings include Outlandish: =

Writing between Exile and Diaspora (Stanford, 2000), which focuses on =

Conrad, Adorno, and Rushdie, and dozens of catalogue essays, previews =

and reviews for contemporary art exhibitions. He is a frequent =

contributor to Artforum International magazine. His talk draws on his =

current long-term project, which concerns intersections among =

twentieth-century literature, art and critical theory, from Yeats =

onward but especially after WWII.

We hope you'll be able to attend the talk, which, as always, includes =

discussion after the presentation.

Later in the fall term, we=92ll hear a presentation on Tuesday, 1 =

December, by Melanie Benson (Dartmouth College) on =93Globalization, =

Transnationalism, and the Problem of Native American Studies.=94

Details about the Center, including a calendar of events, are =

available at http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~humcentr/.

Best wishes,

Peter Nohrnberg, Harvard University, nohrnber at fas.harvard.edu
