Words and Music

While numerous poets have actively collaborated with musicians, writing
poems specifically to be set to music, modern poets such as Federico
Garcia Lorca and Robert Desnos continue to have a musical afterlife in
the work of contemporary musicians, both classical and popular, who have
found lyrical inspiration in their work. This panel seeks to
investigate the notion of “translation” from a cross-disciplinary
perspective, considering the implications of giving musical form to a
poetic work. Papers on the output of any modern poet whose work has
been set to music (particularly, though not necessarily exclusively
contemporary music) are welcome.

For consideration, please send a 300-word abstract and a short
biographical blurb to stromk at gvsu.edu by April 30, 2009.
